| Mojácar Pueblo |
|
Previously populated by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Greeks, and Moors, it still attracts many cultures and communities. During Moorish rule, Mojácar castle (el Castillo) was built and the town walls were fortified. Local legend claims that the cartoonist Walt Disney was born in the area and emigrated to the United States with his mother when he was a baby, and was adopted by the Disney family. Much in the way of research has been done to verify the fact, but nothing definitive has yet been found. Mojácar village still remains true to its Moorish past, with narrow white-washed houses and streets and in places the Moorish influence can be seen. To see the Pueblo at its best, it should be explored on foot. Free parking can be found below the village, and you can wander up through the village at your own pace. El Mirador del Castillo sits at the top of the village with breath-taking scenic views all around. Make you way up to the bar and take in the views while enjoying a cold beer, a glass of fine wine and some wonderful freshly prepared typical food.

The village of Mojácar (Mojácar Pueblo) stands at the top of a hillside watching over the beach area, Mojácar Playa, and Mediterranean Sea. In the south eastern part of Spain, in Andalucia, it is located just north of the provincial capital city of Almeria.
Indalo symbol: Some say that the Indalo represents a man holding a rainbow over his head, but others say it is a man holding a scythe - a symbol of fertility. Whichever legend you prefer, the Indalo is ancient and is thought to have come to the area with the Phoenicians. It is believed to be lucky and can be found on the front of homes and businesses throughout the area.
